The sun was shining as 24 students from Centennial School in Lac du Bonnet participated in the fifth annual Reel Solutions for youth event. Hosted by the Lac du Bonnet Wildlife Association, Don Lamont and regional fisheries manager Derek Kroeker started off with some fish biology 101 followed by some tips on finding fish.
Then it was time for a hot lunch provided by the club. Of course the excitement started to build as each student was provided with a new rod and reel courtesy of a grant from the Fisheries Enhancement Fund. Members of the Wildlife group helped the anglers get set up for the mini fishing derby that was held on the town dock. After an hour and a half fun and laughs, plus a few snags, three fish were caught and released. All in all another great day!
Special thanks to Anthony Penner and the staff at Centennial School for helping make this happen and all the dedicated members of the Lac du Bonnet Wildlife Association that help out each year.
